LAUNCH Waterloo is a social enterprise transforming STEAM - science, technology, engineering, arts and math - programs for children and youth. LAUNCH programs aim to inspire curiosity and spark ongoing engagement in STEAM. Programs are designed for team-based activities in a recreational setting with a strong dose of fun - think minor sports, but for science and tech!

With a grant from the CanCode 3.0 program, LAUNCH has created the Canadian Minor STEAM Association (CMSA). The CMSA is a national network of clubs providing children and youth with fun, progressive, hands-on STEAM experiences surrounded by supportive and enthusiastic coaches. The CMSA currently includes 13 Regional Clubs with more onboarding!

Club Manager - Waterloo Region

13-month contract position (ending March 30, 2024)
Annual salary range: $55,000 - 65,000
Time commitment: 35 hours/week (evenings and weekends required)
In-office position with some remote work possible


Position Overview

The CMSA Club Manager manages the day-to-day operations of the Waterloo CMSA club enabling the successful and seamless delivery of high-quality, unique, experiential programs and experiences for children and youth. The CMSA Club Manager is responsible for the organization and logistics of the program delivery including locations, scheduling, volunteer management, supplies management and family communications. This leadership position is critical to the success of the Waterloo CMSA club and will be the main liaison with coaches and participants.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Waterloo CMSA club

  • Provide supervision and training to all new and existing coaching staff and volunteers

  • Organize and coordinate program locations each season

  • Organize and coordinate required program supplies for each program offering

  • Manage communications with participant families including incoming inquiries, program specific communications and issues management 

  • Ensure all reporting metrics are captured for each program

  • Maintain accurate program records including attendance & incident reports

  • Maintain accurate staff records including police checks, hours, and training

  • Ensure LAUNCH policies and health and safety protocols are followed by all team members

  • Be able to deliver STEAM activities based on CMSA programming materials as needed

  • Coordinate with Program Manager and curriculum team as needed

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience leading, planning, organizing, and implementing program activities for children and youth of a variety of ages

  • Experience in leading education, outreach, camp, youth programs, or recreation activities with children and youth

  • Ability to work as a member of a team and accomplish tasks with little direct supervision

  • Strong organizational and communication skills

  • Experience in STEAM fields an asset

  • Teaching or coaching experience or certification an asset

  • Access to transportation within Waterloo Region (for Waterloo Region programs)

  • Must provide vulnerable sector records check

  • Must be vaccinated against COVID-19 and willing to follow all public health and LAUNCH guidelines regarding infection prevention and control

  • Work will take place outside of normal office hours including evenings and weekends

CMSA Coach

Canadian Minor STEAM Association (CMSA) Coach

Evening and weekend hours required

Position Overview

CMSA programs aim to inspire curiosity and spark ongoing engagement in STEAM. Programs are designed for team-based activities in a recreational setting with a strong dose of fun - think minor sports, but for science and tech! Coaches plan and lead high-quality, unique, experiential programs and experiences for children and are responsible for the general safety, development, growth, and skill achievement of the participants in the program.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver STEAM activities for children based on CMSA programming materials

  • Organize and lead activities (possibly in-person or online - following all health and safety protocols) in our after school, weekend, March Break, summer or speciality programs

  • Lead engagement with assigned volunteers supporting the program

  • Organize all required materials and supplies for assigned program

  • Support participant engagement including identifying and responding to participant behaviour where appropriate

  • Assist in maintaining accurate program records including incident reports and attendance

  • Follow and enforce all safety guidelines including ensuring all relevant health and safety protocols are followed while in program

  • Ensure all reporting metrics are captured during the program and shared with evaluation team

 

Qualifications

  • Experience in leading education, outreach, camp, youth programs, or recreation activities with children and youth
